Unit Grading

  • 75 points [25 participation points; 25 homework points (see below); 25 journal points (see unit outline above for journals) points]
  • 50 points for the unit project
  • The test is not due until the end of Domestic Poverty Part III (see above).

 

Homework

  • Read / review pages 9-25 (Chapter 1) of Ruby Payne’s A Framework for Understanding Poverty. (Participation Points awarded). Read each of the 7 scenarios. Complete the chart for each of the 7 scenarios. Discuss what students would do in each situation.
  • Read / review Ruby Payne, Chapter 3: Hidden Rules Among Classes. Complete the quizzes.
  • Read The Working Poor, Preface, Introduction: At the Edge of Poverty & Money and Its Opposite (pg. ix-xii; 3-12; 13-38). and complete ONE of the following assignments: Write a 1-page reaction / summary to the article, where you identify and react to the main points of the article. Be sure your response to 3-5 course concepts, and highlight the concepts used in your response AND explain the Church teaching on the issue OR Answer the chapter questions.   • Budget Exercise
  • Read The Working Poor, Chapter 2: Work that Doesn’t Work (pg. 39-76) & Chapter 5: The Daunting Workplace pgs.
