REL 11: Domestic & International Poverty

This course explores morality and social justice through the lens of Catholic Tradition and applies moral decision-making, conscience formation, and Catholic Social teaching to the definition, causes, and effects of poverty; homelessness and housing; the relationship between government, racism and welfare; and international classism. Students will participate in service learning, research, critical thinking, problem solving, discussion, reflection, simulations, prayer, and group tasks and study books and articles related to the course topics. Students will grow intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and communally with their neighbors locally and globally. This course requires students to develop research skills through the completion of a moral issues project and a 25 hour service-learning project. Completion of these projects is required for a student to earn credit for this course.

NOTE: This course is not being offered for the 2011-2012 school year.
