Religion 11: Service & Research Project
Project FAQs
What is the Service & Research Project, when is it due, and how will it be graded?
How much will this project affect my grade?
This project is worth 32% of your grade in religion 11: 5% will be your annotated bibliographies final draft; 5% will be your research paper final draft; 10% will be your 10 hours of service; 12% will be your 15 hours of service
Can I get an extension?
All work must be turned in on the due date. Any work 1-day late will be worth 50% and work 2 or more days late will not be worth any credit. Extensions will only be granted with permission of the department chair. Extensions are usually only granted in the case of an agency error or mistake; extensions are not granted for sports/club activities, lack of planning, or other student scheduling errors.
What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography contains an MLA citation and a 1-page critical summary of the article. Please include copies of the resource with the annotated bibliography. Each draft must also include your topic.
How do I put this in MLA format?
The annotated bibliographies and research paper must be in MLA format. MLA format guidelines can be found in the Bedford Handbook, online, or in this document, which gives an overview of MLA format.
Where can I find research (approved resources) for this project / paper?
Your sources must address the research paper questions individually or collectively. Your sources must be books, magazines, newspapers, journal articles, and approved Catholic Church resources. You can access resources via the CJHS library media center webpage using the database codes (Coming soon). I would not recommend using a search engine on the web; if you find a resource outside the CJHS databases, please get it approved. Books, magazines, newspapers, journal articles on the web can be used on this project.
Please use this document if you want some help organizing your resources for the annotated bibliographies.

Where can I do service / How do I find a service site?
You may complete your service at any Miami Valley nonprofit organization that serves clients in your issue area. If you would like to volunteer at an agency other than one of those provided by the school you may submit an alternative site selection form (see above). Your agency must meet the project guidelines and be approved by the Ministry and Service office. Please check out the list of pre-approved sites (Coming Soon), contact the agency, and volunteer!
