Department Highlights

• CJ is the only Catholic high school in the Dayton area with a designated, interactive, computerized Language Lab. This allows students direct access to authentic materials in the target language.  This lab facilitates the acceleration of language acquisition.

• International pen pals offer an opportunity for a global perspective and appreciation for a foreign language and cultural distinctions.

• Foreign excursions are offered to countries speaking the language a student is studying:

  • France

  • Germany

  • Italy (Latin students)

  • Spain

• Department-wide community service projects take place annually.

  • Community outreach to local grade schools provides elementary students with an introduction to foreign language.

  • Instruction is proficiency based according to the standards of the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages.
