Highlights
Thursday, December 29
Lyle Plummer, '14, was recognized by the Dayton Daily News as one of the top five area wrestlers to watch this season. As a freshman, Plummer was crowned the GCL North ahtlete of the year and champion of the 103 lb. weight class at the league meet while helping the Eagles win the overall league championship. Competing in the 113 lb. weight class this year, he has gotten off to a perfect 10-0 start with 8 pins and first place finishes in both the Xenia and Franklin Invitational tournaments.
Tuesday, December 13
The Eagles had a very successful outing Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Xenia Invitational Tournament. The team took second place honors in a field of 10 schools to bring home a trophy.
Individual champions Lyle Plummer, Patrick McManus and Tyler McBeath medaled in 1st place. Patrick Steffan took home a 2nd place medal, and a plethora of wrestlers including McKinley Screetch, Justin Mornhinweg, Alex Screetch and Dominic Genovesi won 3rd place medals.
Congratulations to the entire team for their efforts at Xenia. Next on the schedule is the two day Greater Miami Valley Coaches Holiday Tournament. This 50-team event is arguably one of the most prestigious tournaments in Southwest Ohio and will be held at Wright State’s Nutter Center (directions) on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 29-30.
Wednesday, December 7
CJ wrestling participated in the Franklin Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3. Despite finishing 6th in a field of 10 teams, the Eagle grapplers had an encouraging day.
Individual placers included 1st place finishers Lyle Plummer and Tyler McBeath, 2nd place finisher Tommy Redinger and 4th place finisher Patrick McManus. In addition, CJ’s three freshmen and two sophomore wrestlers gained valuable experience in the line-up.
Following a tri-match on Wednesday, Dec. 7, the team will hit the mats on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Xenia Invitational Tournament.
