2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet

During the evening of Thursday, Oct. 10, Chaminade Julienne celebrated its 2013 class of Distinguished Alumni Award winners at a banquet hosted at the NCR Country Club. The annual awards are intended to honor graduates of Chaminade Julienne and its four predecessor schools.

Congratulations to each of this year's honorees:

Rosa Lee Weinert '46
Rosa Lee Weinert always knew she wanted to become a nurse. After high school she trained at Good Samaritan Hospital's School of Nursing, then went on to earn both her bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University. She accomplished many great things during her illustrious career, ultimately serving as assistant executive director of the Ohio Nurses Association, vice president of nursing at St. Lawrence Hospital (Lansing, Mich.), and executive director of the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Paul McEnroe '55
Paul McEnroe has affected each of our lives whether we know it or not. Shortly after graduating from Purdue University, Paul began a successful career at IBM. There, he led a team that would eventually create what we call the Bar Code, a technology used worldwide to this day. Paul now spends his time at Rancho La Purisma in Buelton, Calif. where he ranches and breeds horses.  Paul and his wife Tina are also actively involved with the McEnroe Reading and Language Arts Clinic at UC Santa Barbara.

The Honorable James Brogan '57
James Brogan earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from Georgetown after graduating from Chaminade in 1957.  He would go on to practice law in the United States Army JAG Corps and retire as a Colonel in the US Army Reserves. During his 44-year career in public service, James fulfilled many different roles including Ohio Supreme Court Justice and adjunct professor at the University of Dayton's Law School and at Sinclair Community College.

Paula Beach
Paula Beach taught first at Julienne High school in 1971, then went on to teach at Chaminade Julienne for 34 years. Many students recall Mrs. Beach as the teacher who always believed each student was capable of success, but to others she was much more. She  even volunteered her services as a bus driver and seamstress for CJ athletic teams. Paula and her husband Alan Beach '66 are the parents of CJ graduates Michael '00 and Lauren '02.

The Weckesser Family
On the first day of school in 1894, parents John and Elizabeth sent the first of two Weckesser children to St. Mary's, sparking a tradition that has lasted more than a century. The Weckesser family lineage can be traced through predecessor schools St. Mary's, Notre Dame Academy, Julienne, Chaminade, St. Joseph Commercial and CJ. In total, 58 family members are proud graduates and four are current students, representing each grade level.
