CJ Takes Home 8 DayTony Awards

CJ's performing arts program was awarded eight High School DayTony awards during the annual ceremony on June 13.

The awards were in conjunction with the DayTonys, which are presented by the Dayton Theatre Hall of Fame. The awards recognized high schools for their excellence in performance, design, and direction in local productions. The High School DayTonys were voted on by other students in the Dayton-area who rate the productions in both acting and technical aspects.

The CJ performing arts student and adult members who were recognized with an Award of Merit were:

  • Derek Dunavent- Properties; You Can't Take It With You
  • Joe Sattler '15- Actor in a Supporting Role in a Play as Boris Kolenkhov; You Can't Take It With You
  • Angelo Knight '18- Actor in a Leading Role in a Play as Martin Vanderhof; You Can't Take It With You         
  • Christopher McCoy '15- Actor in a Leading Role in a Play as Anthony Kirby; You Can't Take It With You      
  • Emily Thie '16- Actor in a Leading Role in a Play as Penelope Sycamore; You Can't Take It With You and Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical as Martha; The Secret Garden
  • Addi Helms '15- Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical as Mary Lennox; The Secret Garden
  • Lauren Eifert '17- Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical as Lily; The Secret Garden.

This was the second year Chaminade Julienne has participated in the DayTonys. Last year, CJ took home six awards.

"The DayTonys is a great way to celebrate our accomplishments this year, and always remember how proud we are of all of our cast and crew members," said drama teacher Caitlin Bennett. "We tackled two very challenging productions this year, and I think this recognition celebrates the excellence of these productions as a whole."
