Score it a hit! CJ's Winter Baseball Camp was more like a grandslam homerun for 40 area elementary students this past Christmas break.
Baseball campers in grades 5-8 spent two days (Dec. 22-23) in the Student Conditioning Center, CJ's indoor athletic training facility, improving their hitting, fielding and throwing skills with members of the Eagles varsity baseball program. Sessions ran each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Winter camp stressed the fundamentals of the game in a fun, but focused environment said coach Mike Hoendorf '03, organizer. Youngsters were able to stretch, long toss, field ground balls on the turf, and take batting practice indoors — just like members of the 2014 district champion CJ varsity baseball team.
After dishing out Silver Slugger, Golden Arm, and Camp MVP awards, varsity coaches gifted all ballplyers with a camp t-shirt.
The varsity baseball team opens the 2015 spring season at Howell Field on March 29 against Purcell Marian.
Thanks to all who could join the team!
