CJ Philosophy: Both the Marianist and Notre Dame de Namur traditions seek to educate the whole person. All schools quite naturally form the mind through academic learning, the body through extracurricular activities, and the creative spirit through the arts. Along with these - and at our center - Chaminade Julienne endeavors to develop and form the soul. Through liturgies and daily prayer, volunteer service, the Senior Capstone Project, and the witness of our Christian community, CJ strives to form our students, faculty, staff and families into women and men of deep faith who know that they are loved by God and are inspired to love their neighbor. We aim to do this in tandem with all aspects of the school. Formation in faith and providing a Catholic educational experience are not mere “add-ons” but drive and are integrally linked to all facets of the curriculum, life and culture of the school, permeating all that we do.
In the realm of teaching, I have taught mathematics for 10 years before coming to CJ. This included a diverse set of schools and varying levels of math. In preparation for being ordained a priest, I studied for about five years, which meant that I took a pause from my role as teacher. However, I think this has been helpful to my students and I. First of all, I return to the classroom energized to begin teaching again. Second, my experience of being a student again (particularly studying in a foreign language) gave me new insight into the learning process and has helped me empathize with my current students.
In the realm of ministry, I bring my experience of living vowed Marianist Religious Life in community. As I have dedicated the rest of my life to the Marianists, I am a strong promoter of the charism and vision of Blessed Chaminade. While I have only been a priest for just over a year, I have had a variety of experiences in priestly ministry. They include being a high school chaplain, associate pastor, hospital chaplain and spiritual director. I hope that all of these will allow me to minister well at CJ.
