CJ Philosophy: I value Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School (CJHS) because it is a place of diversity, strong academics, and Christian living. At CJHS the teachers truly care about the students and are willing to spend extra time with them helping them learn. Additionally, there are multiple opportunities for students to grow in their faith and build Christian community. At CJHS all students are welcomed, supported, and given multiple opportunities to develop their gifts and talents. Through the charisms of the Society of Mary and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur students are challenged to live justly and become contributing members of society.
My studies in theology and urban educational leadership have challenged me to consider how I can better serve my students inside and outside the classroom, especially those on the margins. Jesus’ ministry was focused on the poor and outcast; I too want to ensure that every student has an exceptional learning experience. By asking critical questions, challenging students go deeper, and providing diverse learning experiences I hope students will build community, enact justice, grow academically, and become people of faith. I inform my teaching with multiple intelligence theory, democratic education, differentiated instruction, critical theory, the Marianist and Notre Dame de Namur charisms, Catholic theology, and social justice. I believe Catholic education needs to go beyond the classroom and inspire us to live the Gospel message of love.
