Founded by Blessed Joseph Chaminade in 1817, the Society of Mary (Marianists) is an international religious order of brothers and priests who serve in the Province of the United States, which includes Eastern Africa, India, Ireland, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Members of the Order are guided by charisms, or gifts given by God, for the benefit of the Christian community. They are dedicated to the spiritual formation of individuals and communities through the ministry of education, parish work, service to others, and the arts.
The Society of Mary and Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur co-own and sponsor Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. The Orders are actively involved with guiding operational decisions, ensuring that CJ's mission is central in the education of students, and helping fund school operations. Both Orders work with CJ's lay community of educators and administrators and charge them with instilling the traditions of the Orders through instruction and teaching by example through living out the Charisms and Hallmarks of the Orders.
