Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity (ECHO) is a partnership between the University of Dayton Center for Catholic Education and local Catholic schools, including Chaminade Julienne.
ECHO is staffed by licensed mental health therapists and social workers who work alongside teachers and administrators to remove non-academic barriers to learning, such as poverty, exposure to addiction, violence, discrimination, separation, or physical and sexual abuse. ECHO staff are present in schools daily, allowing them to gain invaluable insights, build strong relationships with students and families, and provide effective counseling services.
The goal of ECHO is to establish and support a healthy learning environment in each classroom so that children are unencumbered by the stresses of everyday life and are able to focus and learn.
Some examples of the types of supports and services include the following:
- Crisis intervention
- Child Protection
- Clinical referrals
- Counseling and consultation
- In-school clinical observations
