Once Upon a Mattress is a comedic musical retelling of The Princess and the Pea, set in a medieval kingdom where Queen Aggravain has decreed that no one may marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, finds a worthy bride—though she ensures every princess fails her impossible tests. When the unconventional and spirited Princess Winnifred arrives, she shakes up the court and wins Dauntless’ heart, but must pass the Queen’s final challenge: detecting a tiny pea beneath 20 mattresses. With help from the kingdom’s quirky characters, Winnifred outsmarts the Queen, Dauntless finally stands up to his mother, and love triumphs in this lively, humorous musical.
