Theatre Productions
CJ Performing Arts produces two main productions each year, the fall play and the spring musical. Recent productions include Into the Woods, Seussical, Radium Girls, Twelfth Night, Little Women, Clue On Stage, Cinderella. Our theatre students and productions have been awarded Merit and Outstanding recognitions by the Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards, including the 2023 Jimmy Award nominee.
In addition to performing, CJ’s growing tech theatre program teaches students about the technical aspects of theatre production, including stage management, set build, lighting design, sound design, and costume design.
Student Written and Directed Work
Students have the opportunity to participate in a night of student-written and student-directed work. This collaborative production of a handful of one act plays are each individually written, directed, and performed by CJ students.
Theatre Classes
Students have the opportunity to take acting and stagecraft classes during the school day to learn more about theatre arts. Classes offered are Acting I, Acting II, Stagecraft I, Stagecraft II, Advanced Acting & Directing, and Musical Theatre in Context.
Busted Box Improv
The Busted Box improv troupe, formed in 2014, is made up of students who love to make things up as they go! Directed by professional improviser and teacher Caitlin Bennett, students are challenged to grow in listening, responding, and collaborating in an improvised scene. The group has performed at various CJ concerts, the Talent Show, and has competed in the local improv competitions.
