CJ Congratulates Archbishop Schnurr and Archbishop Casey for Their “Yes” to Serving the Church

April 2, 2025

On Thursday, April 3, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati starts a new chapter with the installation of Most Reverend Archbishop Robert Casey. He became the tenth Archbishop of Cincinnati, replacing Most Reverend Archbishop Dennis Schnurr, who retired earlier this year. Chaminade Julienne is one of the twenty-two Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

“We at CJ are excited to have the opportunity to work with Archbishop Casey in the future,” said Greg Mueller, CJ principal.

Archbishop Casey has been a priest for over 30 years. He most recently served as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, working closely with parish priests and lay Catholics. An article in the April 2025 edition of the Catholic Telegraph describes Archbishop Casey as highly personable with an Irish wit. He speaks fluent Spanish and describes completing the 40-day pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago as transformative  — changing him both as a disciple and priest. CJ’s junior retreat is based on the journey along the Camino de Santiago, and students watch the movie The Way, starring Chaminade alum Martin Sheen ‘58.

When he first learned he would be the next Archbishop of Cincinnati, Archbishop Casey expressed profound gratitude.

“I wanted to say to Jesus, ‘Me? Really?’ And then, I can’t help but say yes because [when] I look back on my journey—He’s always had my back. So, how can I not trust Him? The only word I have is ‘gratitude,’ and it comes from this abiding faith in Christ Jesus. … First and foremost, gratitude to Jesus, and secondly to Pope Francis and Cardinal Cupich. What a great adventure this is!”

His installation occurs during Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati.

CJ’s relationship with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is explained in Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School’s Mission Effectiveness Orientation Materials. “Responding to invitations from the Bishop of Cincinnati, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and the Society of Mary founded secondary schools to serve the needs of the Catholic community. They later joined to establish Chaminade Julienne in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. As a private school owned and sponsored by the two religious orders, Chaminade Julienne faithfully cooperates with Archdiocesan policies.”

“We fully welcome the Most Reverend Archbishop Robert Casey as he embarks on his new adventure in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati,” said Mueller. “We are grateful for Archbishop Schnurr for his spiritual guidance over the past 15 years.”

Please keep both Archbishop Casey and Archbishop Schnurr in your prayers.
