Chaminade Julienne is excited to announce Raymond Wisden as the head coach for boy’s volleyball starting this spring. The Eagle program will grow and benefit from 28 years of experience that Wisden gained coaching volleyball for college and club, and most recently leading girl’s volleyball at Oakwood High School as head coach.
“Coach Wisden brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our boy’s volleyball program,” said Anthony Turner ‘04, athletic director. “His commitment to holistic development and character-building excites me most, and it aligns perfectly with our school’s mission and vision.”
Wisden’s path to coaching started through his work in education.
“When I first became a teacher, they asked if I would be interested in coaching volleyball,” said Wisden. “When I first stepped on the court, I felt like this is what I really wanted to do.”
Looking forward to the next stage of his coaching journey by joining the CJ community, Wisden is inspired by the school’s reputation and the culture of support for one another.
“His approach focuses on enhancing athletic skills and prioritizes student-athletes growth as well-rounded individuals, fostering values that resonate deeply with our educational goals,” said Turner.
His mission at CJ is to train, work, and play hard. Wisden is inspired by Proverbs 14:23: “All hard work brings a profit.” He seeks to motivate his players by instilling the value of training hard in the weight room, working hard during every practice, and giving one’s all to every single play in a game.
“There is no substitute for hard work,” said Wisden. “Every squad that I have coached that has bought into that philosophy, has accomplished great things that season.”
His goals for the 2025 squad are for team members to be relentless in their skill sets and be confident in themselves. He believes that a team that believes in themselves is a team that is hard to defeat.
