Chaminade Julienne is excited to welcome Chris Rupp as head coach for girls’ tennis.
“Coach Chris Rupp has a genuine love and passion for the game of tennis. His passion is evident in the way he mentors and connects with student-athletes,” said Anthony Turner ’04, athletic director. “He understands that growth happens far beyond wins and losses, and he will consistently challenge our players to grow in confidence, discipline, resilience, and character. We are grateful to have Chris as our girls’ tennis coach.”
Rupp’s path into coaching began through years of involvement with his own children’s athletic experiences.
“I coached my children in every sport they played growing up,” said Rupp. “After they graduated high school, I realized I missed the interaction with the athletes.”
Following his retirement from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base last year, Rupp saw the opportunity to begin a new chapter centered on tennis, a sport that has long been one of his greatest passions.
“I am excited to begin this next chapter coaching tennis, my favorite sport,” he said. “My Catholic faith is important to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity at CJ to integrate faith and prayer into our athletic activities.”
Rupp brings a wide range of coaching experience to the program. Years ago, he coached summer tennis alongside Jim Brooks, CJ’s longtime tennis coach, who will continue to head the boys tennis program. Rupp later assisted the Oakwood tennis program while his son competed there. In 2025, he became a certified coach and joined The Miami Valley School coaching staff, working with middle school, junior varsity, and varsity athletes.
“I particularly enjoyed my time as a varsity assistant coach, where we sent two players to state last year,” Rupp said. “My approach focuses on ensuring athletes enjoy the game, improve their skills, and learn life lessons in a faith-based environment.”
As he begins leading the girls tennis program at CJ, Rupp plans to emphasize positivity, work ethic, and personal growth while building a strong culture of support.
“It is essential for players to be supportive of one another and to learn how to handle both success and setbacks with grace. I place a high importance on building strong camaraderie and lasting connections among teammates,” he said.
Looking ahead, Rupp hopes to create a program that not only is competitive but also inspires students to develop a strong appreciation for the game of tennis.
“My goal is for every participant to enjoy themselves, improve their game, and strengthen their friendships. My vision is for tennis to be the sport of choice for CJ students and for our athletes to become lifelong tennis players.”
