Meet the Teacher: Connecting CJ Families

August 22, 2024

The Meet the Teacher event started with more than two hundred parents receiving their student’s class schedule and ready to shadow their son or daughter’s day. All were welcomed in the auditorium by Dan Meixner ’84, president, and Greg Mueller, principal — and then the evening began as it does each school day with Carlos Stewart, director of mission and inclusion, leading prayer.

Parents then set out to navigate to their student’s different classrooms, where they were able to put a face with the teachers’ names on their class list.

“We appreciated the turnout last night and the chance to see some familiar faces and new ones as parents walked the halls, finding their respective classes. It was a great opportunity to meet with their student’s teachers face to face and ask questions. This annual event is part of what helps us launch into another great school year,” said Greg Mueller, principal.

During these ten-minute sessions, parents had the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and learn about the expectations for each class. In place of homeroom, there was a brief session on what is required for service hours in first- and second-year students, the junior service project, and the Senior Justice Capstone project.

“I am so happy I got to meet some of my students’ parents,” said Krystal Rosa, English language coordinator. “For the Spanish-speaking parents, I’m glad there was an opportunity to translate so they could participate fully in this event.”

Meet the Teachers is one of many events CJ offers to build strong relationships between teachers and parents, which will benefit the students in the long run.

As Kate Lehner ‘93, CJ alumni and parent of a sophomore, said, “I really appreciate this opportunity to connect with my kids’ teachers, get to know them a little better and find out the expectations for the year. It helps set the stage for good communication throughout the year.”

“It was great seeing everyone at Meet the Teacher Night,” said Rosa. “CJ thrives on its gift of diversity and strong sense of community — and it was wonderful for parents to experience the school in this way. It all adds into making CJ such a special place.”
